Historicon Figure Painting Blog.

So tonight I will be picking up the first batch of figures for my Turkish Force for Historicon. Come tomorrow i will begin my obnoxiously detailed posts with graphic photo detailing about how i paint. Everything from cleaning the figures, to basing, up until the final matte varnish. While i am sure this will be redundant, and boring for more experienced hobbyists, my goal is to take this opportunity and write a detailed, from start to finish blog that can be used by anyone new to the hobby.

UPDATE 1

When i was looking at the figures on the Brigade website, i was less than impressed with the sculpts, and was going to forgo the deal and get other figures i liked more. Puzzo reasoned with me, and i am happy i did, these figures look a million times better in person than on the site. And i offer Lon at Brigade to use pictures of my painted Turks ( assuming they dont suck under my unskilled brush ) on his website. These figures are AMAZING, right out of the package i noticed next to no mold lines, and hardly any real flash are on the figures. This makes me very happy, as the last batch of figures i had picked up from a local hobby shop, made by a BIG NAME hobby company, i think i spent more time cleaning the figures, than painting them.
So in the little progress i have achieved today, i simply glued figures onto little round bases, and that was it.
2 packs of 8 turkish infantry advancing
1 pack of 4 Turkish NCOs
1 Turkish HMG
all out of package, and glued to their bases.
Tomorrow i will clean the figures of any flash, or mold lines there may be, gravel the bases, and weather permitting prime them.
Pictures to follow with any progress i make tomorrow. however it is midnight, and i have work tomorrow.
UPDATE 2
Today was a slow day for me as far as hobby work goes. I cleaned the little flash that was on 10 figures, and glued some gravel to their bases, i did the same to the HMG. It is too late for me to prime outside. so i am calling it a night.
Tomorrow i should hopefully have these 10 figures and HMG primed
UPDATE 3
I just primed up the 10 figures, and HMG, and i plan on taking, and posting some pictures of the simple progress i have achieved the past 2 days. However now, i am off to dinner with my Girlfriend, and Hobby stuff will wait till later tonight.

Here is my First painted Turk Infantry.
I used reaper paints mostly on him. Started with a black primer, then a base coat of Khaki Shadow ( shocking i know ) then a primary coat of Khaki ( man this is harder than i thought ) keeping the Khaki shadow in..... only the cracks folds and recesses. next i painted the rifle using a reaper dark brown, and the metal of the weapon in reaper gun metal grey. the leather pouches and belt are all done with terracotta first, then redleather ( both reaper paints ), and the boots were painted with the same brown as the rifle.
I painted the leggings on him GW Foundation Ochre to bring a bright contrast to the greenish khaki.
Next i did the actual highlights. this is the hardest part for me.
I took the khaki, and mixed in some white, 75% khaki, 25% white, and watered it down a bit further than i normally do allowing me to build up several layers of the highlight. i painted this on all the raised areas the extreme folds and bends, as well as the highest points such as the shoulders, the top of his hat, the tops of his elbows.
once this was dry, i did a 50/50 khaki white highlight on the highest most exposed points of his body, and also to increase contrast in some parts of his pants ( that technically would be in shadow, but i wanted them to be more pronounced )
UPDATE 4
its one week into May, and as of now i have 1 model finished. :(
However my HMG is nearing completion, and the other 9 infantry models ( for my 10 man unit ) have Khaki shadow, khaki, and the first khaki highlight put on their uniforms, as well as the first coat of flesh. I should have all 10 infantry and my HMG 100% complete by saturday ! atleast that is the goal.
Pics will be taken tomorrow before i start showing my progress. ( i have been very lax about photos, and here i was so excited to post so many )
UPDATE 5
I finished my first unit Today its 9 infantry men and a command model, and i also finished my HMG. while the colors are a bit bland, i had to take some artistic license with the figures, and the standard brown leather belts, and pouches were replaced with a red leather to give some more color to the models.
Overall i am very happy with how they came out.
Tomorrow i prime the next 9 infantry and command, and hopefully Soon i can get my hands on the last group of models to paint up !
